This is such a great idea! I really need to do this and compare what’s spent in a month when hubby is away versus a month he’s home, and also add in costs for eating out (we eat out WAY TOO MUCH when he’s home). Seeing as tomorrow’s Feb 1st and I have a shopping trip to do, sounds like a good time to get started (better late than never, right?)

Hmm. Since I use Stonehenge in my blog header, does that mean I own it? It’s not like you’re posting “oh, I have an iPhone”. The only thing is the iPod touch programs sometimes get called an “iPhone”, but a simple “I have an iPod Touch” should be sufficient. And even if you HAD an iPhone, you wouldn’t be able to sell it for much anyway. Maybe $100. And then you’d be out a phone and I’m pretty sure new phones probably cost at least $50 for basic models. So really, what would be the point anyway?

Oh wow. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll be giving up my US Citizenship when I gain UK Citizenship. Did Canada make her give it up or did she do it willingly?

I swear, if I hear one more time that I need to get rid of my iPhone I might just explode!!

It’s just hateful, blatant lies over and over stated as fact. Oh! Like I love how many people say the whole story is a lie because it doesn’t go into effect until 2014 so I’m lying. How about you take two seconds to google PCIP and you’ll see what it is?? GRR.

I’ll be sure to remember your NHS link now.A cousin of mine moved to Canada years back to marry her husband and she even gave up her US citizenship and became a Canadian and can’t understand why so many people defend the US system of “healthcare” since it’s so clearly broken.

I think I get just as upset as you! I sit here and FUME as I write out reply after reply…only to get told things like “internet friends aren’t real friends” or “tell her to get rid of her x” and it just infuriates me! There’s only SO MUCH a person can get rid of and cut back on until there’s nothing left. You know I know, because I’ve been there. *hugs*

Thanks for posting this hon. A couple nights ago I couldn’t even sleep because I kept thinking about the hateful lies and terribly mean things people say in response. It astounds me the level of attacks people make on me personally – all because they believe there shouldn’t be a change in the way healtcare is managed in America.

It’s too old to dispute it…BUT, Quidco has offered to get me £15 cash back, so I’ll take it. They claim the £30 offer expired the day before I signed up for it. I counter that I signed up for it the same day I received the email offer, but whatever. Will take what I can get!

(sorry this has taken so long to reply to!)

1 – It didn’t bother me, so much as I found it interesting how easy it was getting through London compared to Philly

2 – I’ve never known those restrictions. Tim flew back to the UK with wedding cake after our wedding in 2009, and my mom brought me the same cookies in Dec 2010. If the issue was with the metal tin I could understand opening my case to look at it, even opening the cookie tin to see what it was, but to eat half of them?!

1. The laptop, shoes, etc. stuff has been going on for years in the US. If Philly was never strict on it before when you were going back and forth, poo on them, because they were supposed to be.

2. Last I knew, you weren’t supposed to fly with homemade goods, or really ANY food of any sort. So while them going through the cookies is totally not cool, having that metal container was not a smart move – they couldn’t determine what it was during X-ray and is why it was flagged for a physical check.

Sorry you had to go through this, and I would issue a complaint about the food being gone, but I wouldn’t expect it to go anywhere.

I never had any problem with the Canadian border on either side, and this was the only time I got seriously questioned upon re-entry from being international….not even on re-entry from a Caribbean cruise that stopped in Jamaica!

Though I suppose this had been the longest I’ve been out of the US…*shrug* He really liked looking at my UKBA issued visa, too.

I’ve had similar(worse?) treatment from the border patrol upon re-entering from Canada after 2 1/2 days traveling there. This was in 1992 so I don’t think your experience is in any way new or different. Unfortunate though, that citizens are made to feel like criminals for no reason. Well actually there is a reason, just not a reasonable one. And it is, why in the world would you want to travel to or live in any of the 90% of the planet that is not america?

Yeah it’s definitely hard when things change so suddenly like that! At least you can get home to see your family, even if it’s not ideal timing or circumstance. It’s good that you can be with them right now.

And, that means the gift I bought for you (which should be to me in a few days then I’ll send it out) won’t be quite so late since you’ll be celebrating Christmas a little later this year. *chuckles*

*hugs* Thanks M. It’s tough — I keep thinking “oh, I need to do this before Christmas” and then it hits me that TOMORROW is my last day at home before Christmas….so I think Tim and I are going to have our Christmas on New Year’s instead. We have dinner at his parent’s on the 26th, so my turkey will just stay in the freezer because I’m not prepared to explain to Tim how to defrost the turkey!!
