Digital SLR

I’ve talked about this in a few places, but not given much detail. Tim has a Canon EOS 300D. I, do not. I tried using his camera in 2008 when we were in Wales and I thought his camera was too heavy, and so I gave up on using it…but recently he encouraged me to play around with it. I love it. I took all the photos in Wales exclusively with the SLR camera, and even took loads in manual focus.

Does this mean I don’t want my new Olympus mju 3000? No way. I’m so excited for my new camera my mom and aunt gave me for my birthday. I love having a portable camera, and I can’t wait to try out the new settings. Sometimes, a small point and shoot can take just as nice photos as a big SLR.

the thing people tend to miss about the different kinds of cameras is the PURPOSE of them. a DSLR isn’t meant for snapshots; sure, it’s more than capable for taking them, but it’s meant to give the user more control over their shots. point-and-shoot cameras are ideal for everyday, random, unplanned photos. it doesn’t have the same functionality as a DSLR, but it doesn’t *need* it.

Absolutely. For example, Helen’s son, Mark, wants a Digital SLR camera after seeing the great shots I took with Tim’s because I think he thinks you *need* to have an SLR to take good photos….which I don’t think you do. I think I’ve managed to take “good” photos off the simple camera on my phone – the quality might not be good, but the photos still were!

yeah, you don’t need a DSLR for snapshots. hopefully his mother isn’t foolish enough to fall for it…it’s not like they’re cheap and disposable.

You’ll like this – Nick got his bag stolen on the train last year and he made a claim on his insurance. In his bag, he had an old digital SLR someone had given him when they replaced theirs. The insurance company couldn’t get him his exact model, so instead they upgraded him to the latest Canon digital SLR(retail value of £600) PLUS they threw in a brand new high-end zoom lens (retail value of £800).

But now I’m jealous and want us to get a new digital SLR. LOL. Though, I did discover my new olympus mju 3000 has panorama mode and it’s so much fun!
